In 1998 I retired from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as a Lieutenant after twenty years of public service. During my law enforcement career I was assigned to traffic enforcement and Special Investigations involved in narcotic enforcement, white collar crime and computer crimes.

During my law enforcement career I founded a public service organization which I am still involved with called Cops Who Care. Cops Who Care is nationally recognized program assisting at risk children and in 1999 I was featured by Family Circle Magazine as their “Top Ten People Who Care and Make a Difference”.

Overnight Millionaire!

After my retirement in 1998 I began a web development company called Wickenburg Web.

Jim Jenkins who operates FauxRock.com was one of my first clients. During my initial meeting Jim related that he wanted to “sell rocks on the Internet”. Jim explained that he made fiberglass rocks in his garage and wanted to sell these on the Internet.

I charged $500.00 and launched his site.

Several months later Home Depot found out about his products from his site and offered him the contract to make faux rock panels to sell in their stores!

Jim became an overnight millionaire, moving his company to Washington State and hiring seventy five employees.

During this same period I had a client that came to me that wanted to “sell dirt on the Internet”. Her family owned a kitty litter mine in Arizona and they developed a product using residue from the kitty litter processing to make a facial cream.

Several months later a cosmetic company purchased the rights to her product, and again I was left with only $500.00.

It was at this juncture that I decided to take inventory and develop my own e-commerce presence. Pulling out a yellow pad I wrote down everything I had a passion for during my law enforcement career; handcuffing bad guys, guns and writing tickets….

I figured it would be too kinky of a website to sell handcuffs and selling guns would land me in jail so what could I do about writing tickets???

I was certified as a traffic radar instructor and felt I could develop a website that would teach people how to avoid traffic tickets and do reviews of speed counter measure devices such as radar detectors and jammers. That night brainstorming my good friend and business Internet marketing associate Bill Peck, “Radar Roy” and RadarBusters.com was born.

A few days after launch I sold my first three radar detectors, but I had a problem. I didn’t have one radar detector in inventory and I didn’t know where to buy them at wholesale. So after driving off to Best Buy and buying out all their detectors, I began looking at where to buy these at cost.

Over the next four years I grew the company to a level to where I was selling $20,000.00 of detectors a month and quite frankly pleased that I only had to work an hour a day answering emails, filling orders and having $4,000.00 extra income each month. But each soon after I watched my competition get stronger and my profit shrinking and realized that I needed to treat this not as a hobby, but as a business.

It was then I realized that if I would work an extra six hours a day on my business that I could bring RadarBusters to a higher level.

I hired high school students and work at home moms to write articles. I added an 800 telephone number, hired my daughter for customer service and shipping/receiving and outsourced web development to create an additional forty four Internet properties.

Next year my profit grew over 300% as I was now the dominating presence on the Internet for my niche!

I developed a saying when competitors cried about me to my distributors “Tell them they can sue me, join me or acquire me”.

An empire purchases RadarBusters.com

Then in 2007 one of the fiercest competitors on the Internet, Netshops, took me up on my offer by acquiring my company for over seven figures and hiring me on as a consultant.

Radar Roy leads TirePressureMonitor.com to millions!

After the sale of Radarbusters I had numerous associates and companies contact me who wanted me to either teach or do search engine optimization or Internet marketing for them. As I no longer needed or desired to have a job, but interested in keeping my skills sharp, I began coaching five clients.

One client that I had been working with just previous to the sale had a passion for their product, a tire pressure monitoring device.

We obtained the domain name tirepressuremonitor.com and I began coaching them on SEO, SEM and helping her develop engaging content for her website.

A year later they quit their full time jobs and began working on their Internet properties exclusively. Today they own a new home, a new motor home and their own airplane!

We began coaching Tom Wilkerson who certifies fork lift operators online.

Tom began using the power of Social Media to engage with prospective clients before they entered into the buying funnel.

We also developed an exit strategy for when the time came for Tom to sell his business. To Tom’s surprise in just after a few months of applying my coaching he has been approached for a buyout and is pleased to have a plan in place. Tom relates that I have helped him add a zero to his bank statement which provides affords a much higher life style to him and his family.

Very early on we recognized through web analytics that their main referral base was not from paid online advertising, but by previous clients who were interacting on social media. By targeting this medium, we reduced their Adwords spend by 75% and had a dramatic increase in new referrals.

During my entire “online journey and adventure” I’ve continued my relationship with Jim, the Rock Guy and over the past six years he has dominated his niche and is now offering training to contractors and home owners on building faux rock features.
